ALDE drives the change of approach on the Discharge procedure bringing the EU budget added value to the forefront
The 2014 discharge procedure was launched today in the Parliamentary Committee on the Budgetary Control (CONT) with the hearing of the Commissioner for budgets, Kristalina Georgieva, and representatives of the Court of Auditors of the European Union. Martina DLABAJOVÁ (ANO, Czech Republic), rapporteur on the 2014 discharge, does not want to limit the monitoring of the effectiveness and the quality of expenditures made under common European policies to an annual procedure but wishes to integrate it into a multi-annual monitoring process.

Outsourcing to Erdogan is a “quick-fix” that will not help Europe in the long-term
Commenting on Chancellor Merkel’s visit to Turkey, the leader of the European Liberals and Democrats Guy Verhofstadt has today warned that outsourcing Europe’s problems to Turkey is a quick fix solution, which will not help Europe tackle the refugee crisis in the long-term. Without a real European migration-and asylum policy and a joint strategy to end the bloodshed in Syria, Europe’s fate will remain in the hands of superpowers neighbouring the EU.
