European Parliament backs key trade mark reform for European businesses and citizens
The European Parliament today backed by an overwhelming majority the report drafted by ALDE MEP Cecilia Wikström on the trade mark reform package (regulation and directive). The adopted text will modernise EU trade mark registration systems – available in parallel to national registrations – by making them more accessible for both citizens and businesses, lowering the costs, increasing legal certainty and reducing the length of the legal procedure businesses have to face when registering a new mark. The modernisation and reform of the current EU trade mark system will also bring more transparency and facilitate the fight against counterfeit goods.

Electricity Interconnection: 10% target vital, but more must be done.
MEPs have today adopted a report that proposes several actions necessary to make Europe’s electricity grid fit for 2020. Liberal and Democrat MEPs are happy with the compromise and consider the 10% target as a very valuable contribution to the Energy Union and also as one of the main preconditions for the creation of this project. However, Liberals and Democrats do regret that the 10% target, which was already announced in 2002, wasn´t subject to an impact assessment, but rather taken purely by a political decision.
