Fair and quality fish on your plate: ALDE calls for a European Eco-label
The EU is the largest fish and seafood market, supplied by both domestic production and third country imports. The EU fisheries sector along with its industrial and traditional processing practices comply with high social and environmental standards, which guarantee the quality and sustainability of European fisheries products. But what about imported products, that represent two thirds of EU consumption? This was the subject of the seminar organized by the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) on “Safe and fair fish on your plate”. During this seminar, the Commission made a commitment to put forward a proposal on an EU eco-label at the beginning of 2016.
