Paris Climate Conference: Liberals and Democrats call for concrete EU proposal on international climate finance
The European Parliament will this evening adopt a resolution on the EU´s negotiating position for the international climate conference in Paris. Liberal and Democrat MEPs hope this resolution will, in particular, support a concrete EU mechanism for international climate finance.
Following a proposal by ALDE MEP Gerben-Jan Gerbrandy, the European Parliament has called for the setting aside of a number of EU carbon market allowances after 2020 for international climate finance. The revenues from auctioning the carbon allowances would be used to finance clean technology, forest protection and climate adaptation projects in the poorest countries.
