Liberal victory in the Netherlands
The liberal parties VVD and D66 have together won over 28% of the vote in Dutch provincial elections. The VVD remained the biggest party and D66 came third, while doubling their score.

Verhofstadt: “Prolong sanctions against Russia and investigate Russian financial aid to European political parties”
In advance of today’s Council meeting, ALDE Group leader Guy Verhofstadt calls upon the leaders to show more ambition than reflected in the draft Council conclusions:
“These meetings should be used for more than just having a good dinner between Heads of State. If we want to make Europe count and show citizens that European cooperation works, government leaders should dare to take bolder decisions.”

Tax transparency package welcome, but much more to do.
The European Commission will tomorrow launch a new draft law obliging 28 European Union Member States to exchange information on tax deals with multinational corporations. If approved, the law would come into force on Jan. 1, 2016.
