The European Parliament in Strasbourg has today adopted, by a large majority, an urgency resolution on the situation in Pakistan following the devastating terrorist attack in Lahore on the 27th March 2016, which caused the death of over 73 people and injured over 300, including many women and children.

ALDE welcomes European framework for trade secrets – Decisive step to promote innovation while ensuring fundamental rights are protected-
The ALDE Group has today backed the report on the protection of undisclosed know-how and business information against their unlawful acquisition, use and disclosure; a key text to promote innovation and research in the business sector. The report, which supports the European Commission’s proposal for a directive on trade secrets, will contribute to create a European framework for companies who face corporate espionage. This activity is especially harmful for SMEs and start-ups. ALDE confirms that media freedom and whistleblowing will not be compromised by this piece of legislation and calls for a European scheme to protect whistle-blowers.

“Wake up, EU-Turkey deal will not save us”, Verhofstadt
During today’s debate in the European Parliament about the EU-Turkey deal, ALDE leader Guy Verhofstadt has urged the European leaders to face reality. The EU-Turkey deal will not save us. Desperate refugees are taking alternative, more dangerous routes. Yesterday alone, more than 2000 refugees had to be rescued in the Mediterrean Sea.
