Stricter Spanish abortion law is the wrong choice
The Liberals and Democrats group in the European Parliament (ALDE) strongly opposes the changes to Spain’s abortion law as proposed by its ruling conservative Popular Party. The reform restricts a woman’s right to legal and safe abortion unless there is a ‘certifiable’ risk to the mother’s health or in cases of rape. The proposed law also removes the possibility of terminating a pregnancy in the case of a foetal malformation.
