Energy Labelling: European Parliament adopts report introducing updated legal regime
The European Parliament has today adopted a legislative report on energy labelling, following a decision by the European Commission to update the legal regime. The original A to G scale for classifying the energy efficiency of products will now be restored. Reclassification is needed as many product categories are currently “full”: for example, most “white goods” (e.g. fridges, freezers, etc.) are in the A+, A++, or A+++ categories. There is evidence that consumers get confused and no longer have an incentive to go for the most energy efficient product.

European Commission’s digital package: A step forward towards the completion of the European Digital Single Market
The European Commission will tomorrow present long-awaited legislative proposals on the EU’s digital single market. Liberal and Democrat MEPs strongly welcome this digital package, which will include a proposal to ban unjustified geo-blocking – the practice of blocking websites across borders and providing different prices and conditions depending on the location of the customer. The ALDE group has long advocated a non-discriminatory principle regarding online sales of goods and services, while ensuring that businesses will not be forced to deliver to other Member States.
