Verhofstadt to Polish Prime Minister: “I have faith in the Polish citizens”
The ALDE Group in the European Parliament has today called upon the Prime Minister of Poland, Beata Szydło, to listen to concerned Polish citizens, and to stop using the broad majority of the PiS government to dismantle the system of checks and balances of the Polish democracy. That strong mandate should instead be used to lead the country according to the rule of law and European core values.

Verhofstadt: “We have to cooperate with and invest in Africa, but not outsource our problems to Africa”
ALDE group leader Verhofstadt and ALDE migration spokesperson Wikström have today addressed the European Commission and the Member States to deplore the pitiful outcome of the Valleta summit which took place on the 11 and 12 November 2015. Agreeing on a European Border and Coast Guard and a European asylum-and migration system including a European Blue Card for skilled and non-skilled workers should have been the outcome of the meeting. European solutions for European problems are urgently needed.

Verhofstadt welcomes Avramopoulos call for a European Intelligence Agency
Guy Vehofstadt, president of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats in the European Parliament, welcomes the call of the Commissioner for migration, Dimitris Avramopoulos, for the creation of a European Intelligence Agency. It should not be an idea to be implemented in the long term but as soon as possible. ALDE urges the Home Affairs and Interior ministers, meeting today in Brussels, to take immediate measures to strengthen Europe´s anti-terrorism capacity and to support the setting up of a fully fledged European intelligence agency to fight against borderless terrorism. This European agency should be subject to a democratic oversight. Mandatory Exchange of information between Member States and their national state security agencies is a key priority.
