Liberal and Democrat MEP’s demand action to reduce energy use in buildings
The European Parliament has today adopted a report on an EU heating and cooling strategy, setting out proposals to reduce the use of energy in buildings. In October, the Commission will set out their proposals for the review of existing EU energy efficiency legislation.

EU ‘credibility’ on free trade in doubt says senior Liberal MEP
MEPS today debated the conclusions of the recent G20 summit, held on the 4th and 5th September in Hangzhou, China, with Economic Affairs Commissioner Pierre Moscovici and Slovak European affairs minister Ivan Korcok.

ALDE welcomes EU Commission’s commitment to start legal proceedings against EU Governments over “dieselgate”
One year ago the Volkswagen scandal, in which cheating on car emissions tests has been revealed, became public in the United States and then quickly affected Europe and its consumers. During yesterday’s hearing in the Parliament’s Inquiry Committee into emission measurements in the automotive sector (EMIS), set up to respond to this so-called dieselgate scandal, the EU Commissioner for Industry, Elżbieta Bieńkowska, finally stated that the Commission will start infringement proceedings within weeks.

Electricity market design: reform needed to deliver climate and energy security targets
MEPs have today adopted a report setting out the European Parliament’s position on the future design of Europe’s energy market. The report responds to the release of the European Commission’s strategy to help deliver the EU’s 2030 climate and energy targets, which will require a fundamental transformation of Europe’s electricity system including the redesign of the European electricity market.

Nicaragua: Democracy and rule of law must be restored
The ALDE Group in the European Parliament condemns the undemocratic behaviour of the Nicaraguan President, Daniel Ortega, following the exclusion of 28 opposition MPs from the National Parliament, ahead of the upcoming presidential elections in November. The MPs are linked to Eduardo Montealegre, Vice-President of the Liberal International, ex-leader of the Independent Liberal Party (PLI) and one of the main political enemies of Daniel Ortega.
