Verhofstadt on Genscher's death: We lost a great statesman
Today we sadly heard the sad news of Hans Dietrich Genscher’s death. As Germany’s longest-serving Foreign Minister (1974–1992), the former FDP-Chairman considerably shaped his home country and brought his diplomatic acumen to use to deliver a more united Europe. In Germany he was one of the top political leaders and the most influential Liberal figure. He argued for the creation of the European Union and the defence of its values.
