ALDE commissioners to play a major role in new Commission
Commenting on today’s announcement by Jean-Claude Juncker of the distribution of policy areas to the nominee commissioners, Guy Verhofstadt, ALDE group leader says: “Our candidates will be in charge of key priorities: trade, competition, justice and the creation of an energy union and a digital union. Two vice-presidents are liberals.”

Verhofstadt calls for new Commission to focus on growth, democracy and a united foreign policy
Ahead of Jean-Claude Juncker’s nomination of his list of Commissioners and their portfolios, Guy Verhofstadt, President of the ALDE Group in the European Parliament said: “The Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) wants a strong and courageous Commission that is effective in laying the groundwork for a new Europe”.

Liberals criticize Europol’s refusal to disclose information under pressure from USA
In response to pressure from the USA, Europol refused the European Ombudsman to disclose a report requested by Dutch liberal Sophie in ‘t Veld, ALDE vice-president (Netherlands, D66).
This became evident today following reporting of the European Ombudsman, see: (http://www.ombudsman.europa.eu/cases/decision.faces/en/54678/html.bookmark).
