Parliament moves to reduce impact of biofuels on global warming
Members of the European Parliament today adopted ALDE MEP Corinne Lepage´s report revising EU rules on the Renewable Energy Directive (RED) and the Fuel Quality Directive (FQD) due to carbon emissions resulting from indirect land use change (ILUC) from biofuels production. The aim of this important and technically complex legislation is to minimise the impact of biofuel production on the climate. However negotiations with Council will not begin until later, after a second reading, as Parliament rejected a proposal to start talks immediately by a single vote.
