Today, Liberals in the European Parliament rejoice at the 50th anniversary of the Elysée Treaty sealing the reconciliation between Germany and France after centuries of intense rivalry. When Charles De Gaulle and Konrad Adenauer signed the Treaty at the Elysée Palace in Paris they also set in concrete rules for mutual political consultations at various levels and established the Franco-German youth office.
